Fine Used Books for the Whole Family...

Yes, We Buy Books Too...

Bay Leaf Books is interested in buying quality fiction, non-fiction and poetry, from current paperbacks to antique volumes.  Here are some tips on selling us your books…

~ Please call prior to bringing your books in to make sure the buyer is available.  Our number is (616) 636-8500.

~ If you have a large number of books to sell, or have an estate or library to liquidate, we will make house calls to purchase books.  Please call Gabe at (616) 636-8500 to make an appointment.

~ Books must be clean and in good condition.  Modern paperbacks must be in very good condition with little wear and children’s books must be in very good condition with no writing, names, RIF stamps, etc.  Condition is not as vital with books published in American prior to 1850.

~ We offer a fair price based on condition and market value.  Please note that we offer wholesale prices for books so that we can sell them at retail prices in our shop.

~ In addition to books, we are also interested in ephemera, especially items that are Michigan-related.  Ephemera are generally paper items (posters, broadsides, tickets, brochures, etc.) that were originally meant to be discarded after use but have since become collectibles.

~ We don’t give store credit, but will usually pay more if you are buying books that day.

~ We do offer written appraisals for estate and insurance purposes based on an hourly fee.  Please note that we cannot purchase any books that we have given an appraisal for.

~ We Do Not Buy:

Ex-library books (unless they were published in America prior to 1850); book club books; books that get outdated quickly like computer books and most diet books;  National Geographic books or magazines newer than 1920; encyclopedia sets newer than 1913; Time-Life series books; Reader’s Digest books; most magazines (except some bound volumes and complete runs of unusual titles); or comic books (though we do want manga).

~ A Note On Age:

While some old books can be valuable, just as some new books are valuable, it must be noted that age does not always denote desirability or worth.  More often than not, an old book is simply an old book with no more value than its modern counterpart.  When the market price of a book is questionable, we do our best to research it and offer you fair compensation.
